Raees box office collection: Shah Rukh Khan's film rakes in Rs 151.25 crore in 13 days
The release of the Shah Rukh Khan-Mahira Khan starrer, which was scheduled to release in Pakistani theatres on Sunday, was on Monday banned for its inappropriate portrayal of Muslims.
Earning Rs 4.75 crore on Monday, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer "Raees" box office collection has crossed Rs 150-crore mark in the domestic market. So far the film has collected Rs 151.25 crore in India.
Meanwhile, in a blow to "Raees" makers, the film was banned in Pakistan. “The portrayal of Muslims is negative and the film’s content undermines Islam, and a specific religious sect, (while also) portraying Muslims as criminals, wanted persons and terrorists,” an official source in the Pakistan censor board said, according to a report in The Indian Express.
Bollywood film “Kaabil”, which that has Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam in the lead roles and has been in a clash with "Raees", had already released in Pakistan after a months-long self-imposed ban by exhibitors was lifted. Both films were released on January 25.
Few days after the "Raees" was released in India, Pakistani actress Mahira Khan had expressed disappointment as her film is not being released in her country.
“I am the first Pakistani actress who got the opportunity to work with Shah Rukh Khan as the main lead. But I feel that my success and fame has come under the evil eye due to which my film has not been able to release in Pakistan,” she said.
