Sasikala DA case: AIADMK chief convicted, OPS expelled, Palanisamy new CM face

AIADMK party MLAs staying at a resort in Koovathur on Tuesday elected state highways minister Edappadi K Palanisamy as legislature party leader barely 2 hours after the Supreme Court convicted Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case.

Tamil Nadu's state highway minister Palanisamy was elected as legislature party leader to stake claim for the chief minister post after Sasikala held talks with the legislators.

Media reports suggest that Palanisamy would meet Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao later today and stake claim to form the Tamil Nadu government.

Meanwhile, acting chief minister O Panneerselvam has also been expelled from the primary membership of the party.

Earlier in the day, the apex court sentenced Sasikala to 4 years in jail and asked to pay a fine of Rs 10 crore.

The apex court ordered Sasikala, who was accused number 2 in the Rs 66-crore disproportionate assets case, to surrender immediately.
