Tamil Nadu: Sasikala says AIADMK govt will continue; more MPs back Panneerselvam

As more AIADMK MPs offering support to caretaker O. Panneerselvam amid political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu, the party general secretary V K Sasikala on Sunday said the AIADMK government will continue in the state.

Deserting Sasikala, ten parliamentarians, including 8 Lok Sabha MPs and 2 Rajya Sabha MPs, extended support to Panneerselvam earlier today.

The Panneerselvam camp has now the support of 10 of the 50 AIADMK MPs after Senguttuvan of Vellore, Jayasingh of Tuticorin, R P Marutharaja of Perambalur, Rajya Sabha MP, R Lakshmanan and S Rajendran of Villupuram joined the camp.

Meanwhile, Sasikala attacked the opposite camp, saying the same situation occurred during Jayalalithaa’s time and the same group which went against Jayalalithaa is now attacking her.

The Sasikala's camp had earlier claimed that she has the support of 127 legislators, including 27 ministers. AIADMK has 135 legislators in the 235-member assembly.

However, recent reports said more leaders changing their position, leaving the state assembly into crisis. Pannerselvam needs to have the support of at least 90 legislators to escape the anti-defection law, and should receive the backing of at least 118 legislators to become the Chief Minister.
