Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chief Yasin Malik was arrested in Srinagar on Friday with five others after he tried to lead a march in the state capital to demand mortal remains of party founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru.

Police said that Yasin Malik, along with his party colleagues Muhammad Yasin Butt, Ghulam Muhammad Dar, Imtiyaz Ahmad and Basharat Ahmad and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Gazi Javed Baba, were taken into custody after they tried to continue the march.

Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who had earlier lead a march towards the UN military observers group headquarters, was also placed under house arrest.

They were initially lodged at Kothibagh police station and later shifted to central jail Srinagar on remand till February 15, a spokesman of the JKLF said.

Authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar to prevent the Friday protests called by separatist groups.
