Lucknow: Suspected terrorist opens fire at security forces, encounter underway

In Lucknow, the Anti-Terror Squad is currently trying to capture an alleged terrorist hiding in a house on the outskirts of the city.

A suspected terrorist opened fired at security forces in Thakurganj area of Lucknow, on Tuesday afternoon. The area is among the densely populated areas of Lucknow. Security officials had to fire tear-gas shells into the house where the suspect is holed up.

Special Task Force IG Aseem Arun, ADG (Law and Order) Daljeet Chaudhary and 20 commandos of the STF are currently at the spot at Haji Colony in Thakurganj.

Asked to surrender by the police, the suspected terrorist reportedly yelled back that he wanted “shahadat” (martyrdom).

It is reportedly suspected that the man, identified as a Lucknow resident, could have links to the low-intensity blast in a Bhopal-Ujjain train on Tuesday.

An ETV report, however, quoted sources from the local intelligence as saying that three to four terrorists could be holed up in the house.
