Rangoon Box Office Collection: Vishal Bhardwaj

Rangoon was been released with much hype and expectations. But unfortunately, it failed to attract audience toward theatres despite the big star cast.

On its very first day, Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut starrer romantic period drama did an average opening business of 6.07 crores.

On Saturday the movie remained almost flat and registered the business of 6 crores only. Then with a similar note, it minted the amount of 6 crores on Sunday also.

After the opening weekend, the total collection of Rangoon was recorded as 18.07 crores on domestic box office. Now the movie is running in weekdays and getting lesser occupancy in theatres than weekend. On its first Monday, it faced massive fall of 79% than Friday and added the amount of 1.30 crore to its account.

On Tuesday with a further drop, the movie managed to collect the amount of 1.20 crore. On the next day i.e. Wednesday, it witnessed more decline and minted the amount of 1.10 crore*, which has made its 6 days domestic total as 21.67 crores. Rangoon is likely to end the week with around 22.50 crores on business, which is very disappointing.

Adding to its dismal collection is the report that the film found itself the latest victim of online piracy. Recently, Raees and Aamir Khan’s Dangal were also leaked online, although that didn't dent its box office collection.

Rangoon is a love story set against the backdrop of World War II. Ranaut plays Julia, a fiery Bollywood action star who is sent by her film producer husband Rusi Billimoria (Saif Ali Khan) to entertain English and Indian troops near the India-Burma (Myanmar) border. During her journey, Ranaut falls in love with Kapoor, a young Indian soldier who saves her from a Japanese attack.
