UP polls 2017: PM Modi to hold rally in Rohaniya

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Monday hold a rally in predominantly rural Rohaniya Assembly segment falling under his Lok Sabha constituency.

This will be the third consecutive day of electioneering by the Prime Minister in Varanasi.

Modi has been addressing three public meetings, including today, and taken out two processions in open vehicles since Friday.

According to a report in Press Trust of India, the Congress has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission that prior permission had not been sought for Friday's "roadshow".

As PM Modi carried out a massive road show on Saturday, Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi also held a joint road show with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. He also hold a massive rally in Varansi on Sunday.

On Saturday, wooing the electorate in his constituency, Prime Minister Modi asserted that he has made Kashi his 'Karya Kshetra' so that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can regain the pride of the region, which has lost its shine under the current Samajwadi Party (SP) Government.

Addressing the Varanasi rally on Saturday, the Prime Minister said that even if he had not visited Kashi, his own constituency, BJP would have emerged victorious, however, he still wanted to come and address the people as they were close to his heart.

"Back in 2014, I could not visit Varanasi as the Election Commission did not allow me to carry out a rally. Since then I have always wanted to come and speak to you. Kashi for me is not a political area, but I wanted to work here because I wanted to bring back its lost heritage," the Prime Minister told the cheering crowd.

The BJP has claimed that the rallies were not "roadshows" but "Jan Sampark yatras" and there was no breach of model code of conduct as the PM merely waved at the cheering crowds, without uttering a word, on his way to a temple on Friday and the venue of his rally yesterday.
