BARKHA DUTT TURNS AGAINST KABIL SIBAL, SAYS SHE IS FIGHTING FOR JOURNALISTS

Kapil Sibal's Tiranga TV has allegedly fired more than 200 employees and has confiscated their equipment, according to tweets posted by senior journalist, Barkha Dutt.

Some employees had made similar allegations against the channel and had conducted a silent protest at the Press Club in Delhi earlier in the month (July 3), to no avail

But now Barkha Dutt's tweets have reportedly forced Kapil Sibal to invite department heads of the channel to discuss the way forward and resolve the issue of pending salaries.

Tiranga TV went on air on January 26, broadcast by Veecon Media and Broadcasting. The channel was not able to create any buzz in the last six months of its existence, even though it had on its rolls senior journalists like Barkha Dutt, Karan Thapar and Maneesh Chhibber. According to sources, Thapar was being paid over Rs 10 lakhs a month, which gives one an idea of the salary bill.

In a series of tweets, Barkha Dutt slammed Sibal and his wife Promilaa Sibal for their unprofessional conduct. Promilaa Sibal used to run a meat factory. Reportedly she said on the floor of the studio: ''I shut down my factory without giving a paisa to the staff. I can do the same with journalists.'

Barkha Dutt said that she was being threatened with a defamation suit for fighting for the rights of the staff and was asked to withdraw her comments comparing Kapil Sibal to Vijay Mallya.

She urged everyone with a voice to tweet @KapilSibal till he pays the employees.

The rumor has it that the channel was an election gamble. Sibal is a senior Congress leader. The defeat of the party evidently did not help the case for keeping Tiranga alive.
