The shocking incident of tribal children consuming food waste out of Peravor Panchayat's garbage was reported before the Kerala assembly elections in 2016. A few days after the state BJP declared to adopt the village. But the villagers now reveal that no one from the party ever came back to the village even once.
The allegation against Sobha Surendran leaves Kerala BJP in deep trouble since BJP's bid to raise Ampalakkuzhy issue had already been bomeranged on the party when Prime minister Narendra Modi tried to use it against LDF and UDF fronts in Kerala.
Prime minister Narendra Modi compared Kerala to Somalia in an election rally speech on 7th May 2016 and the same gone awfully wrong when the people of the entire ethnicity retaliated asking Modi to 'get lost'. Keralites' reaction to Modi went viral on the hashtag PoMoneModi. Modi made this 'gone wrong' comparison raising the state of tribal people in Kerala. He said 'infant mortality rate among the scheduled-tribe community in Kerala is worse than Somalia'. Modi made this statement in the light of the incident that children from Ampalakkuzhy Tribal colony were found consuming waste.

The report surfaced in the media stated that party leaders had received Rs 5.60 crores for getting Medical Council of India clearance to a private medical college at nearby Varkala. With the medical college scam, BJP' self-proclaimed corruption free image has been destroyed.
