These selfies, photos and video of the attack went viral on social media and it was in the similar way the Savarnas spread the video of beating Dalits in Una and Shambhulal Regar shot the video of burning Muhammed Afrazul in Rajasthan. An adivasi youth was lynched to death in Kerala accusing theft. Madhu, aged 27 couldn't survive the attack of a group of racists. He succumbed to death while being taken to custody, in a police vehicle. A group of people took selfies before beating him to death. The very nature of the incident created shockwave in the state. The gruesome murder happened in Palakkad district's Attappadi region where a majority of tribal people live. Madhu was caught by a group of people and they dragged him out of his dwelling. They tried his hands with a lungi and started beating him while they made him walk to Mukkali town.


The lynched Adivasi youth Madhu hails from Kadukumanna ooru. The mob attacked Madhu accusing theft and handed over to police. The murderers accused him of stealing coriander and chilli powder since they found packets of spices in his bag. In his statement, Madhu told the police that the mob tortured him.

After dragging him out of the cave he lived in and they took him to Mukkali town. the group started to beat him up all through the way. Police said that he vomited in the jeep. Police was taking Madhu to Agali hospital. Agali DYSP Subrahmanyan informed that strict action would be taken against those who lynched Madhu to death. Madhu lived in Pindasshery forest range, and rarely leaves the forest. he left his cave for the last time out of starvation. He used to survive on forest riches. Madhu used to walk away from people and for that he was portrayed as a thief.



Forest looters used to attack Madhu. Prior attackers were also part of the mob. Attackers took selfies along with Madhu during the attack, they posted it on social media. These selfies, photos and video of the attack went viral on social media and it was in the similar way the Savarnas spread the video of beating Dalits in Una and Shambhulal Regar shot the video of burning Muhammed Afrazul in Rajasthan. "Murderers beaten down Madhu to death by joyfully taking selfies." said CK Janu, tribal leader who is in the forefront of struggles for Adivasi rights.

The SC/ST minister of Kerala AK Balan was participating 22nd CPIM State conference. Mr. Balan was not aware of the issue. His office informed the minister will respond after studying the incident. Palakkad MP MB Rajesh responded that he didn't know about it while we contacted. MB Rajesh was busy with CPIM State conference. He also was not aware of the incident happened in his constituency.



The Police didn't take any action even after the selfies of the attackers came out. DYSP Subrahmanyan informed Narada that action can be taken only after the postmortem report is out.
