While the flow of illicit liquor is on the rise in Gujarat with the number of consignments coming in illegally increasing day by day, the Gujarat Government has stopped the new licenses or renewals of liquor license even for the ex servicemen in the entire state.

The men in uniform in Jamnagar are a harried lot today due to a sudden diktat issued by the Gujarat Government's Jamnagar district prohibition and excise branch which bars the ex servicemen either to renew their liquor or to maake new license from March 2018.

This means that the ex servicemen in the state beginning from Rajkot will not be getting their quota of liquor for themselves. The ex servicemen in the district recently, under the umbrella of Hallar District Ex servicemen association took on to the streets protesting against the sudden move of the government behind this decision.

The rally started from Lal Bangla and after passing through various areas of the city ended at the District additional Collector's office where the ex servicemen gave a memorandum to the additional Collector HR Kalaiyya urging the government to re think of the decision of liquor ban for ex servicemen. The ex serice men are very upset with the sudden decision of the government and are terming it as a curtailment of right of ex servicemen.

The ex army men have also threatened to intensify their stir if the government does not pay heed to their demand and withdraw its decision within the next seven days. During their stir, they also demanded their long pending demand for residential plots, a demand pending with the government since several years.

The government, on the other hand, while stopping the legal liquor consumption of ex armymen, has never been able to check the smuggling of liquor into the state from various adjoining states of Gujarat. In Gujarat, even home delivery of liquor is possible if the person demands. A service which is not available in any other part of India.

Liquor flows freely in Gujarat while the rights of the ex servicemen are being played with.
